A U.S. Agent or Representative is a person who is designated as the importer by the foreign owner or consignee. A U.S. Agent or Representative is only designated for cases in which a food has not been sold or consigned to a person in the US at the time of entry, as there is no U.S. owner or consignee to serve as the importer.
The U.S. Agent or Representative is responsible for the full breadth of supplier verification activities required under the FSVP regulation, and must agree to serve as the importer in a signed statement of consent.
